About Motown Historical Museum

One of Detroit’s most popular tourist destinations, the Motown Historical Museum celebrates this history of Motown records (aka “Hisville USA”) in the original studio founded by Berry Gordy, Jr.

The Motown Historical Museum was founded in 1985 by Berry's sister, Esther Gordy Edwards, who has lovingly tended the historical collections and is a historical resource herself with many stories about the artists who made Motown great.

For anyone who enjoys the music of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson or Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Motown Historical Museum is a must-see attraction during a visit to Detroit. -- Detroit.com editors
